2019 Ford Escape Powertrain Review
With the new Ford Escape, you’ll find an SUV that’s just as comfortable traversing the city streets as it is heading out for a rustic getaway. It’s powered by an impressive powertrain that includes one of the following engines:
- 2.5L I-4: 168 horsepower, 170 lb-ft of torque
- 1.5L EcoBoost® I-4: 179 horsepower, 177 lb-ft of torque
- 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4: 245 horsepower, 275 lb-ft of torque
All three engines come paired with a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission that offers smooth, seamless shifting. This optimizes performance while the SelectShift® capability lets you take control in a limited manual mode when you want.
To help optimize efficiency even more, the EcoBoost® engines include Auto Start-Stop Technology. This prevents unnecessary fuel use while idling by turning your engine off during an extended stop at a red light or stop sign. When you take your foot off the brake, your engine seamlessly powers back up again.
You can choose the lightweight front-wheel drive (FWD) system or get the most out of your handling capabilities with the Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) system.
Intelligent 4WD actively monitors your roadway conditions and automatically redistributes torque as necessary between all four wheels to help you keep a firm grip on the road.
Interior Dimensions of the New Ford Escape
When you hit the road in your 2019 Escape, you’ll have all the space you need inside the cabin for a successful outing. For example, there’s enough seating for five and a total passenger volume of 98.7 cubic feet. The passenger volume includes:
- Headroom (front/rear): 39.9/39 inches
- Legroom (front/rear): 43.1/37.3 inches
It also has 34 cubic feet of trunk space behind the second row. To access even more of the cargo area, fold the second-row seats down flat to make use of the full 68 cubic feet of space.
If you’re loading up heavy items, the available hands-free foot-activated liftgate means that you don’t have to put them down to hunt for your key fob. As long as the fob is with you, you can open the hitch with a simple kick of your foot under the rear bumper. When you do this, it’ll open automatically.
Safety Features and the 2019 Escape
To help you move through town with safety, control, and awareness, the available Ford Safe and Smart™ Package equips your Ford Escape with several driver-assist features, including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support
- Auto High-Beam headlamps
- BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System)
- Lane-Keeping System
These features are all designed to help you be more aware of your surroundings while you’re behind the wheel. For example, BLIS® provides a visual cue whenever another vehicle enters your side blind spot. This way, you know when it’s safe to merge or change lanes.
