When considering the Ford Expedition, it’s good to be curious about everything it offers. At Tunkhannock Ford, we’ve written our own Ford Expedition trim levels guide to better help inform our friends and neighbors in Tunkhannock, Dallas, Harveys Lake, and Wilkes-Barre, PA, of the SUV’s features.

Ford Expedition 2021 Expedition XL STX

This base trim comes equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine that’s been paired with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. It also features battery saver technology, a 23.3-gallon fuel tank, auto stop-start technology, and ABS with Brake Assist and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).

On the infotainment front, the Expedition comes with the SYNC®3-enhanced voice recognition communications and entertainment system, along with FordPass™ Connect with 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. This is handy in multiple situations, including turning it into a hotspot for you and your passengers to enjoy online access via smartphone or laptop.

Ford Expedition 2021 XLT

On this level, there aren’t any changes made to the engine or transmission. The fuel tank remains the same at 23.3 gallons, and the other technology highlighted in the previous trim also remains in place.

There is an upgrade to the infotainment, as the standard AM/FM stereo that’s MP3 capable, has 6 speakers combined with Speed-Compensated Volume. This adjusts the volume of the music according to how fast you’re traveling. Another addition to the lineup is that SiriusXM® has made the jump from optional to standard.

Safety-wise, the XLT has some great features, like the Reverse Sensing System, Rear View Camera with Backup Assist Grid Lines and Washer, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes with Anti-Lock Brake System, Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and SOS Post-Crash Alert System™. In addition to these great features, the Expedition has the Ford airbag system in place to keep everyone safe.

Once more, the mechanical features remain the same, following the path of previous trims up to this point. Something that hasn’t been focused on is the seating. Coming as standard, there are front cloth Captain’s Chairs, an 8-way power driver seat, which includes power lumbar and manual recline, and a 4-way manual front-passenger’s seat.

A game-changer is the inclusion of both a second-row 40/20/40 split bench manual reclining fold-flat seat with CenterSlide® and a PowerFold® and power recline 60/40 third-row seat. Both features give you the freedom to manipulate the inside of your cabin to configure your cargo’s needs.

Ford Expedition 2021 Limited

The Limited trim comes with three new features. The first is a set of 20-inch premium Tarnished Dark-Painted wheels, which are standard on this trim and the Limited MAX as well. Staying with the exterior, power-deployable running boards are now standard, which makes entrances and exits easier than before.

The third upgrade of note applies to the audio system. It has been improved to a 12-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen, which gives you a bold and dynamic, immersive listening experience for you and your passengers.

This trim shares some of the same features for maximizing space in the cabin’s interior while introducing the second-row power-folding and heated 35/30/35 with tip-and-slide. In the front row, the Captain’s Chairs have gotten an upgrade. They are now perforated, leather-trimmed, heated, and ventilated.

The infotainment qualities have also taken a leap forward, expanding what’s been offered and showing off new technology. The biggest upgrade is the Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System with Pinch-to-Zoom Capability, and SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link®. That’s some heavy and handy tech, as is the wireless charging pad.

Ford Expedition 2021 King Ranch

This trim is attuned with making a stylish impression on both driver and passenger. There is a Mesa/Ebony color scheme in the interior of the cabin, with a prolific usage of Del Rio leather on the seats, console, door, and steering wheel. The King Ranch trim wants you to feel a sense of luxury when you’ve taken command of the wheel.

The infotainment system gets a tiny bump with the inclusion of HD Radio™.

While we’ve checked out safety in previous trims, it doesn’t take massive strides like other aspects do. As many features of the King Ranch still apply, we’re going to look over the security features. In no specific order, they are:

  • Personal Safety System™
  • SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad
  • MyKey®
  • SecuriLock® Passive Anti-Theft System
  • Perimeter Alarm

Two more features are the Remote Keyless Entry System and Inclination/Intrusion Sensors.

Ford Expedition 2021 Platinum

There is an upgrade to the seating in the Platinum trim. The leather-trimmed, heated and ventilated multicontour front captain’s chairs with Active Motion® technology provide lumbar support and a soothing seat-bottom massage. This can help reduce lower back and leg fatigue, which makes for a more relaxing driving experience.

In the category of comfort and convenience, we find features that add to your driving experience. The Enhanced Active Park Assist System with Parallel Parking, Park Out Assist, and Reverse Perpendicular Parking is useful when you’re traveling in the city and need to perform a tricky parking job.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go detects traffic slowing down ahead and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop. It can then accelerate back up to the previous set speed if the vehicle ahead of you begins to move.

An exterior feature that the Platinum MAX brings to the table is the available Panoramic Vista Roof®, which features panels in the first and second rows. The front panel even opens for an open-air experience.

An impressive statement-maker are the 22-inch 6-spoke machined-face aluminum wheels with Dark Tarnish-painted pockets. These will certainly catch the eyes of on-lookers wherever you travel!
