Plans for the Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck

FordWhen the first hybrid and electric vehicles hit the market years ago, they were limited to the sedan class. They’ve since expanded to hatchbacks and crossovers, with new vans and, yes, electric pickup trucks coming soon.

What can you expect from Ford’s first all-electric pickup truck? When is the Ford F-150 Electric model being released? Tunkhannock Ford is here to answer Dallas, Tunkhannock, Harveys Lake, and Wilkes-Barre drivers’ questions.

The Benefits of an Electric Ford F-150

Pickup trucks are great for a lot of things. Their excellent towing and 4x4 capabilities make them perfect work vehicles. You can easily load up lumber, equipment, furniture, and other heavy-duty items in the bed for increased hauling—all without overloading the suspension.

The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular trucks on the market today for its incredibly tough framework and innovative technologies. With new towing gadgets, advanced infotainment, and driver assisting safety, the F-150 blends hard work with modern comfort and convenience.

Conserve More Gas

As powerful as the Ford F-150 is, some have longed for a truck with even better gas mileage (maybe mileage more like that of a sedan). The solution to this problem is switching from a gas engine to a modern hybrid or electric powertrain.

Few brands have ventured into this territory before, but Ford will be one of the first.

What’s New in the Ford F-150 Electric?

Ford F-150 CargoHow is the Ford F-150 Electric different from the traditional Ford F-150? While the brand is still tight-lipped about the details, they’ve filed a new patent application that tipped us off to one big change: A front trunk.1

In addition to the rear bed, the more compact and efficient electric powertrain leaves room in the front for additional cargo space. It’s reported that this new “frunk” has two compartments and can be accessed through the grille as opposed to through the hood.

Not only is the Ford F-150 predicted to be more fuel efficient, it’s also predicted to have more cargo room.

More Towing Power than You’d Expect

Some pickup truck diehards have wondered if an electric powertrain might compromise the traditionally high towing capacity in the F-150. However, in July 2019, Ford released a video showing their F-150 Electric prototype towing over 1,000,000 pounds (a train filled with other F-150s, coincidentally).2

Clearly, electric power isn’t going to compromise F-150 towing capability.

When is the Ford F-150 Electric Being Released?

As Ford is still working on F-150 Electric prototypes, release is slated for—at the earliest—2021. As this all-electric pickup truck inches closer, Ford is sure to have more details at the ready, as well as more impressive demonstrations of the vehicle’s power.
