American Red Cross: History
The American Red Cross has been around for well over a century now. Clara Barton, a teacher and hospital nurse during the Civil War, founded the organization in 1881.
In its earliest day, the idea was to provide relief for wounded soldiers, as well as aid in times of national and global crisis. However, the organization has grown vastly to extend relief in day-to-day medical emergencies.
The Eastern PA chapter of the American Red Cross has grown into one of the largest in the entire country, serving over six million people across several counties. All the disaster assistance these patients receive is completely free thanks to voluntary donations of time and money from people like you.
How Can You Donate
There are a couple different ways to donate to the American Red Cross. First and foremost, you can give blood at any number of local drives. Search for opportunities near you on the American Red Cross website today.
However, if you are unable to give blood for any reason, you can still make a monetary donation online or over the phone. Such donations are just as important to the organization as the blood itself.
